My Body and Youth
This poem is about a very sensitive topic- our bodies. If you think this post can be triggering, you can exit the blog right now.
It takes time to accept your body because of the world we live in, that only glorifies a certain type of people. Hugs to everyone struggling. Also, why I particularly chose youth as a theme of this poem is because that is the time when we start seeking people's validations and start to less prioritize ourselves. Youth is something so fragile yet so adventurous.
Anyways you can go ahead and read it! I hope you love it.
‘My
Body and Youth’
Flipped through the pages that glorified,
only the slim types and the beautiful kinds.
I began to hate the body I was born in,
threw up all the food I ate into the bin.
I wanted to look like the beautiful kinds,
but I think I was just so blind.
Got too busy finding faults in my body,
'cause I was too ardent to look like everybody.
The body that kept me safe,
the one in which I should have felt brave.
The body that needed only acceptance,
I offered it only my resistance.
I was trying to fit in,
little did I know that I wasn't born to be someone's twin.
What a tragedy the youth is,
it makes the reality far from what the truth is.
